[the skinny] THE DEATHS OF THE COLD WAR KINGS: THE ASSASSINATIONS OF DIEM & JFK is Lee’s biggest curve-ball yet: a non-fiction book. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Dealey Plaza, along this comes, a $25.00 trade hardcover that details new evidence about the murder of John F. Kennedy, derived from recently declassified federal documents. Lee cowrote this with political journalist Bradley S. O’Leary and it’s pretty interesting if you’re into that sort of thing; if, on the other hand, you could care less about who killed Kennedy, you’ll want to pass on this one. PUBLISHER’S WEEKLY said: “O’Leary and Lee are well-versed in the history of the period and in the various theories that have been offered to explain JFK’s death... Conspiracy theorists and JFK assassination buffs might find themselves compelled by the case made here,” and the political trade journal CAMPAIGNS & ELECTIONS said: “This is not conspiracy fodder; it’s an analytical revelation that even the best-read assassination pundits will find astonishing. But where THE DEATHS OF THE COLD WAR KINGS succeeds best is in its examination of the political turmoil of the era and the new facts that the examination reveals, some quite shocking.” What’s it about? A genuine CIA document that places a field-trained French sniper in Dallas at the same time Kennedy was shot. Serious. This document really exists and there’s an actual scan of it in the book. Conspiracy crackpots and JFKphiles alike will probably enjoy this.
